"El Panteón Azteca y el Arte del Imperio" / "The Aztec Pantheon and the Art of Empire"

Como parte de las celebraciones en Los Angeles del Bicentenario de la Independencia de México y el Centenario de la Revolución Mexicana, Getty Villa presentará la exposición "El Panteón Azteca y el Arte del Imperio". Esta exposición incluirá obras maestras de la escultura azteca, provenientes de las colecciones del Museo Nacional de Antropología y del Museo del Templo Mayor de la Ciudad de México. Asimismo podrás ver una de las mas valiosas crónicas de la historia y cultura azteca, "El Códice Florentino", el cual regresa al continente americano por primera vez en mas de cuatro siglos.

"El Panteón Azteca y el Arte del Imperio" se presentará del 24 de marzo al 5 de julio del 2010 en Getty Villa, (17985 Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, CA) de 10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Cerrada los martes y días festivos. La entrada es gratuita, sin embargo tienes que hacer reservación para el estacionamiento, ya sea a través de la página web The Getty (español) o al teléfono (310) 440-7300, el costo es de $15 por vehículo.

Abrá visitas guiadas en español, así como un extenso programa de actos culturales: conciertos, teatro, conferencias, cursos educativos y eventos familiares, tales como el "Festival Familiar" donde podrás disfrutar de música y danza prehispánicas, podrás hacer tu propia máscara azteca o diseñar tu propio código basado en tradiciones Náhuatl (sábado 22 de Mayo 10:00 am - 5:00 p.m.) o el concierto interactivo de "Sones de México", con un programa especial para familias (sábado 11 de abril a las 2:00 p.m.), entre muchas otras actividades.

As part of Los Angeles' celebration of the bicentennial anniversary of México's Independence and the centennial anniversary of the Mexican Revolution The Getty Villa will host the exposition "The Aztec Pantheon and the Art of Empire."

"The Aztec Pantheon and the Art of Empire" will display masterworks of Aztec sculpture, largely from the collections of the Museo Nacional de Antropología and the Museo del Templo Mayor in México City. The Florentine Codex, an iconic chronicle of Aztec culture and history from the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence, Italy, returns to the "New World" for this exhibition for the first time in over four centuries. Books, maps and other documents from the special collections of the Getty Research Institute document the reception of Aztec culture in Europe, and will also be presented in the exhibition.

You can visit this exposition from March 24th to July 5th, 2010 at the Getty Villa (17985 Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, CA) 10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Closed on Tuesdays and Holidays. Admission is free, however you need to make a parking reservation through The Getty webpage or by phone at (310) 440-7300, $15 per vehicle.

There will be guided tours in both Spanish and English and a rich program of events including concerts, theater, lectures, educational courses and family programs, like Family Festival, where you can experience the rich cultural traditions of Aztec and pre-Hispanic México, enjoy music and dance, create your own Aztec mask, or make your own codex based upon the traditions of Náhuatl culture (Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.); or a Family Concert with Sones de México, an interactive concert with traditional songs and dances, legends and myths. (Sunday April 11, 2010, 2:00 p.m.) among other fun activities.

  2. Hola Marcela, yes!! I think it's a great trip to take the kids, have you check all the activities? they are fantastic! we will try to make it some time. We have been at the Museo de Antropologia in Mexico City and it is spectacular! I'm so happy we have such a great exposition close home. :)

  3. The Aztec civilization is one of the most interesting civilizations that stirred my curiosity. I am deeply fascinated by the various elemental deities.

    The activities sounds exciting, so did you create your own Aztec mask?
