ENGLISH VERSION BELOW
Yo todavía no conozco ninguna.

ENGLISH VERSION
I've yet to meet a new mom who isn't interested in the Potty training process; first, because we ALL have to go through it with our kids sooner or later, and second, because each child is different, our experiences are usually different, too. Maybe some of you are already in the process, maybe you will start again soon (like me), or maybe you're done, that makes for a great mix of experiences, let's share them!

And to put some spice into the chat, Huggies has offered three gift baskets to my readers. For three consecutive Tuesdays I will publish a post about topics related to potty training, and the following Monday after each article, one person among those who comment on the article in my blog will be randomly selected to win a gift basket. So start commenting!

Contest rules:
  1. You will get an entry per comment, so you can do it as many times as you wish. Please leave your name and email in this format silvia(A)gmail(D)com (this is to help prevent getting spammed) so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you don't know how to publish a comment, check here to learn how. If you're still not sure, you can send me an email, just click on "email me" on the right side bar.
  2. Only US residents are eligible for this promotion, but wait.... if you are not a US resident, we still are interested in your comments. Who knows, maybe Huggies will realize that there are a lot of latinamerican parents commenting from outside the US and will decide to start a contest just for you! Never say never! So please help me, if you are US resident write your state, and if you are not, write your country. Thanks.
  3. The first gift basket will be awarded to the lucky winner randomly chosen on Monday, July 20th, at 11:59 p.m. (PT)

Toilet Training Stages

Toilet Training is a sensitive process where parent and child act like active partners, always remembering that the child will have the final word because the control of his body functions is his own domain. Our job as parents is to patiently guide the child through the three training stages.

The stages start from the moment the child is aware of the elimination process until he masters it. Most kids may get full control of the process around 3 years of age; however, as every child is different, these stages can come and go and last for different intervals.
  • The first stage begins when the child is aware of the pee or poop after it has happened (around 18 to 24 months of age), it is important to be alert to the signals to share your child's interest and introduce the sign or word you will use to refer to this act, in this house it is pipi and popo.
  • The second stage begins when the child becomes aware of the elimination at the moment it is happening. Probably at some point in this stage your child will start to hide. Some parents may introduce training pants or a potty at this stage.
  • The third stage begins when the child becomes aware of the signs that the time for elimination is coming. Yeah!
It is important that we parents share our kid's feeling of accomplishment in a calm and loving way. Pressure has no place in this process, every child will take her own time, don't worry, she will do it!

Finally I would like to share a couple of things: 1. Huggies has started a reward program called "Enjoy the Ride Rewards" where you can win instant prices and participate in other contests. This program will end on December 31st, 2009. You can check all the details here. 2. Here is a video featuring the Pull Ups quebradita dancing, (in Spanish) check it out!

  1. I look forward to hearing all the posts on this. I have a 2 1/2 year old who has no interest in potty training although I think she is ready. My older daughter was completely trained by 2 1/2. I think I pushed a little too hard with her and therefore had many setbacks. This time I have decided to take a more relaxed approach hoping the opportunity would present itself. As of yet it has not.

  2. I am looking forward to these posts as well. Audrey is only 12 months right now but the sooner I am ready the better for her ( : I really took my time with my oldest and kind of let him do his thing until he was ready... he didn't fully potty train until he was 3 ( :

Is it okay to sit them in the potty every 2 hours or every hour... some people have recommended this to me... what do you think?

  3. I too have a 2 1/2 year old who has absolutly no intrest in Potty training. I've bought everything under the sun to try to get her to start. Once I sit her on the toilet, nothing happens. The other night, I totally forgot to put a diaper on for the night. She didn't pee in her bed. I was shocked. I hope I win this!!! (o=

  6. Hello ladies, thanks for your comments!

    Cindy and Liz
When my oldest son was 2 1/2 I thought he was ready, ha! he had no intention to use the potty at all, obviously I was the one who was ready for the process. Then I took the decision to stop and give him some time. I started all over again when he was 3 yo and that was a little better, but still took him a couple of months to stop using the diaper. I hope this time around is faster, we'll see.

  7. Hola Marcela

My son is barely showing 1st stage signs and as you, I want to be ready when the time comes. I feel more prepare this time though, however, I know every child is different, it would be interesting to see how my baby will respond to the process having his brother by his side.

I've read also about taking them to the potty every 1 or 2 hours, I did it with my oldest son at the beginning of the process and it didn't work really well with us, but also I think he wasn't ready. Probably I will try it again with my baby just to see. :)

Y bienvenida

  9. Welcome Anne!

I think that all of us at some point have the same feeling, the good thing is that you can start the process and see. If your child responds to the process, wonderful, if not you can always stop, give her a couple of weeks and start over again.

Again, thank you all for your comments. Remember, you will get an entry per comment, so you can do it as many times as you wish.

  10. Hola Silvia!!
