ENGLISH

Mary Tomer, founder and contributing editor of Mrs-O.org, felt captivated by Michelle Obama's presence and style at the Democratic National Convention in the Summer of 2008. Looking for more information about what she was wearing and who designed it, she turned to Google. Not finding as much information as she had wished, she decided to start her own blog. With this idea, and the help of her employer, Mrs-O.org was born. The site launched in September 2008 and has attracted more then 2 million site visits with traffic from 221 countries and territories.

Building on the success of Mrs-O.org, Ms.Tomer takes a closer look at Michelle Obama's style with more than 125 photographs, supplemented with information in chronological order from January 17th, 1964, her birthday, until April 5th, 2009. It also has interviews with her favorite designers, including Isabel Toledo, Jason Wu, Michael Kors, Maria Pinto, and Isaac Mizrahi.

My Opinion

From the moment I received it, I couldn't put it down, at least until I finished it three days later! This is a beautiful book, full of information about Mrs. Obama's favorite styles and designers. The photography is gorgeous and the complimentary information gives event highlights plus insights on Michelle Obama's outfits, their designers, changes made, the materials used, and the accessories which complemented them. I now know our First Lady likes Brooches, Jimmy Choo shoes, and flowers. :) What woman wouldn't like to know all the fashion details? Am I right?

I particularly found interesting each and every interview with the designers, not only the clothing designers but the jewelry designers, too. Reading about their reactions when they found out our First Lady had chosen to wear one of their designs was refreshing and inspiring.

I would like to share a quotation from the back cover of the book, attributed to Andrew Bolton, Curator of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which I think captures particularly well the essence of Mrs. O's style, "What is compelling about Mrs. Obama's style is how she wears both high fashion and low fashion- it's modern, democratic, and above all, American."

This is an exceptional book, if you love fashion, you won't be disappointed. If you are a Michelle Obama admirer, then this is an ideal book to browse through over and over again.
