Mi Opinión
"Cheating Death" es un libro fascinante lleno de historias de recuperaciones médicas increíbles. Dr Gupta inteligentemente toca el punto acerca de donde marcamos la línea entre vida y muerte, ¿se puede mover? ¿por qué algunas personas a pesar de tener todas las probabilidades en su contra se recuperan y gozan de salud? ¿qué función desempeña el oxígeno en el proceso de la muerte?
Me asombró mucho leer de nuevos procedimientos médicos, algunos de ellos hasta suenan "futuristas" para mi, que están siento usados en nuestros días, como la animación suspendida, hibernación, hipotermia extrema, cirugía en fetos... esta última muy cerca de mi corazón, porque soy madre, y aunque tengo la fortuna de tener dos niños sanos, hay muchas otras mujeres en el mundo que recibirán malas noticias respecto a sus bebés en algún momento, y es reconfortante saber que se están dando avances que en el futuro podrán salvar a muchos bebés aún antes de nacer.
Este libro lo leí muy rápido, las historias son tan interesantes y el Dr Gupta lo hace tan ameno que ¡no pude dejarlo a un lado! My Opinion
"Cheating Death" delivers fascinating stories of incredible recoveries. But interwoven in the real drama of these stories, Dr Gupta intelligently discusses questions such as where we draw the line between life and death and can it be moved? Why some patients, whose doctors and families thought faced insurmountable odds of recovery, came back to have a normal life? And what oxygen has to do with death?
I was especially riveted by Dr. Gupta's presentation of some of the "new" medical procedures, some seemingly "futuristic," that are already in use today, such as suspended animation, hibernation, extreme hypothermia, and fetal surgeries. As a mother it's great to know there are doctors developing procedures to save the lives of babies yet to be born.
Cheating Death is fast-paced, the stories gripping, it was hard for me to put it down. Here are some of the chapter titles: "Ice Doctors," " A Heart-Stopping Moment," "Suspend Disbelief," "Beyond Death," "What Lies Beneath," "Cheating Death in the Womb," "What Is a Miracle?," and "Another Day."
