Sinopsis

¿Has visto My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

Synopsis

"What's a girl to do when she finds out she's been killed? Pinch herself to make sure she's not a ghost, for starters. When Dolores Cruz comes home to her parents' house to find every relative she has mourning her death, all hell breaks loose. With the help of on-again/off-again love Jack Callaghan, and juggling a new case thrown at her by muy misterioso boss Manny Camacho, it's up to fledgling detective Lola to find out who's behind the identity theft and suddenly wants her dead."

Q&A with the author:

Do you have a fun story about meeting your husband's mexican family? Did you see My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Remember the scene in the church where the groom’s side has a trickling of people, and the bride’s side is bursting at the seams? That was our wedding, only in reverse! My husband comes from a big family, with lots of extended family, and everyone was invited. Add to that that random people just showed up, and friends of friends of friends, and there were more people at my wedding who I didn’t know, than who I did know.

In particular, there is this one guy I remember. He was wearing a turtleneck and was very rico suave on the dance floor, if you know what a mean *wink wink*. He’s prominently featured in our wedding album and neither my husband nor I know who he is!

Can we read, "Hasta la Vista Lola" independently from "Livin' la Vida Lola," or should we read them in order? Great question! They don’t have to be read in order at all. The only caveat to that is that Lola’s personal relationships develop, so when you go back to an earlier book, relationships might be newer. For example, in Living the Vida Lola, Lola is reunited with Jack Callaghan, her high school crush. He’s been out of her life for a lot of years. In Hasta la Vista, Lola!, Jack’s and Lola’s relationship has taken a few steps forward. But don’t let anything stop you from reading the books in any order! They’re just plain fun.

Do you know how many books there will be in the Lola series? Hasta la Vista, Lola! is the 2nd book in the Lola Cruz Mystery Series. The first, Living the Vida Lola, came out last January. I’m working on the third book, Bare Naked Lola, but it’s not under contract yet. Of course I am hoping the series will continue!

Do you foresee writing in different genres in the future? Aside from the Lola Cruz books, my great love is women’s fiction/literary fiction. I’m working on a women’s fiction novel with magic realism, which is extremely challenging and rewarding. I don’t plan to branch into other genre areas, but to stay focused on the areas I love to read and write.

Where have you had a life-long desire to visit? Ireland! There's something magical about Ireland, at least in my mind. I hope to visit there in my not-so-far-away future.

  4. Thank you for hosting me today, Silvia. What a great blog you have. Your story about your husband is so funny! My sister in law's sister is married to a Philipino man who doesn't speak Spanish and he loves to throw random 'o's at the end of works for Spanish flair. Silly, silly!

  7. Your Welcome Misa, I have a question for you. You mention you are writing a book in magic realism, what inspired you to decided to write in this genre? by the way, I love the genre, I felt in love with Garcia Marquez when I was in high school, he uses magic realism beautifully

  8. Thanks Yoly and Denisse for stopping by.

Denisse, I think Misa's books are a great option to start reading again!!! I read ALL the time, usually I'm reading 2 or 3 books at the same time, is such a relaxing activity for me.

I love Misa has created Lola, a latina character. I can't wait to read them :)

  10. Silvia, thank you again for hosting me! To answer your question about magical realism in the book I'm currently writing... Those magical elements lend something beautiful and mysterious to the story and, in a way, it's how I wish the world was. The story that came to me and which is continuing to develop has subtle but important magical realism elements. They define the character at the beginning, and ultimately, they help her discover who she is.

Hey, Mrs. V! Good to *see* you here. =) Yes, the random guy in the white turtleneck in our wedding album. I'll always wonder...
