Kraft y las Blogueras/Kraft and the Bloggers

Note: In this post you will find the Spanish version and English versions together. I'm using a lot of pictures and I didn't want to make it too long.

If you grew up like me in Mexico or probably almost anywhere else, you'll know what I'm talking about. I've known about Kraft since I was a little child and at that age Kraft was synonymous with "yellow cheese" (cheddar), Philadelphia cream cheese and Tang. I'm almost certain my mom used Kraft cheddar cheese on every one of my lunch sandwiches.

So, when I received an invitation to Tour the Kraft Kitchens, how could I say no? (my mom wants me to tell her every detail, so here you go mama). Fortunately, my brothers were visiting and they were happy to be my baby sitters! I couldn't have left my children in better hands (of course one of my sons and my husband got sick when I was gone....but that is another story).

And for the first time in my kids' lives, I was separated from them for over 24 hours (which, by the way, went by faster than I had expected). So I took the plane and by noon on August 19th, I was in a car driving to a hotel in downtown Chicago.

Las blogueras / The bloggers

I was very happy to meet every single one of the mommy bloggers with whom I spent these very fun two days. I learned a lot from them, I made beautiful friendships, and we had a blast. Here's a picture of all of us with Kraft CEO Irene Rosenfeld. From left to right.

I had such a good time in the Kitchens that I would like to give you a virtual tour myself. I'll tell you the first part today.

We entered the kitchen and I was pleased to see that it was no different from yours or mine (except there were five of them. Oh, and they also had a vast pantry filled with basic products that you can find in any household pantry; and they had a special international foods section where I saw some of our latino products). Kraft wanted to make sure we could exactly duplicate a recipe from their cook booklets or web page, so they used exactly the same kinds of pots, pans, and utensils any of us would have at home, nothing fancy, nothing industrial.

Then we had a tour of their Photography Studio. Did you know Kraft uses only real food in their photography and every single picture is taken there?

Finally we started cooking after dividing up into the five kitchens. Sandy and I worked on the appetizers in Marianne's kitchen. Sandy has lots of experience in hospitality and celebrations and I love to party so we made a great team. Marianne shared great tips and she made us feel like we were in "our own kitchen".

Y comimos. And we ate.

Y reimos. And we laughed.

And we expressed our opinions at the round table.

Que aprendi de Kraft? / What did I learn from Kraft?

Real people like you and me work there every day to bring us products that are tasty, convenient, and easy to use.

Kraft is the second largest food company in the world and its presence is very strong in a lot of countries. They have such a variety of products that there are some I didn't even know they made, like DiGornio Frozen Pizza, Frozen California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas, South Beach Living, Maxwell Coffee, Toblerone...among many, many others.

They are working to reduce packaging and to create healthier products, too.

Overall, I learned Kraft is sincerely interested in knowing what moms need and want to see in the products we bring home to our families every day. Kraft wants to know how they can help us to make our time in our kitchens more convenient, faster, healthier and more delicious.

There are no perfect companies, I don't buy some Kraft products, but there are a lot of Kraft products I use that I didn't even know were Kraft products. I applaud their sincerity and interest in knowing our opinions and comments. Would you like to say anything to them? Go ahead and leave a comment, I'm sure they will read it.

I was invited to take part in the Kraft Foods blogger tour of the Kraft Kitchens. My travel and accommodations were provided; however, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

  1. Great post chica! It was a wonderful day, wasn't it?

I too was surprized at how many Kraft products I have in my kitchen. My favourite in Canada are the large 2lb blocks of Cheese, we buy the old cheddar a LOT.

It's funny that you mention Tang, it's not really something most people drink in Canada anymore (I don't think). But as a kids it was a household staple, there was no fresh OJ to be found in northern Canada.
