I'm laughing because I am Silvia's SIL, a pediatric nurse practitioner and it took forever to get my daughter trained!;-) I joke that they should take my license away!

Okay, all joking aside, remember that all children are individuals and they are on their own timeline. Incentives, prizes, M&M's did not work at all for my strong willed child.

I think part of the issue was that she was the oldest child in her daycare. Most toddlers want to do what the other kids are doing. Finally, after being in preschool for 3-4 months, she was potty trained...by her 4th birthday. I started sending her in pull-ups with underwear she chose over the pull-ups. Eventually, she just wanted to wear the underwear. She has had very few daytime accidents and no nighttime accidents.
All along, I kept in my mind, that my godfather, who is a pediatrician with 9 children, also had a son who wasn't potty trained until 4 years old. That son is a successful adult with advanced degrees.

I guess my point would be persevere, but maybe relax a bit if your little one isn't on the schedule you think they should be. Maybe you can bring some books about potty and read with him while you are waiting. It's important for your child to feel comfortable to let it go, and that's a great start. For how long this process went on?Silviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06075401569486778638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8683904487274061815.post-15932536784186627102009-07-23T11:31:00.907-07:002009-07-23T11:31:00.907-07:00Hi April

No actualy pottying involved. I guess it's the first step, though, right?!

aprilwoodscary at gmail dot comAprilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15915351322324269632noreply@blogger.com
